Subject: Important Announcement – ‘Unwanted Intruder Drill’ at Harvey High School

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Community Members,

In our ongoing commitment to the safety and security of our students and staff, we would like to inform you about an upcoming event at Harvey High School.

On November 29th, 2023, from 3:45 PM to 5:00 PM, we will be conducting an ‘unwanted intruder drill’ as an option for staff at Harvey High School. This drill is part of our continued efforts to ensure the preparedness of our school in emergency situations. The drill will be conducted under the guidance of our Wells County Emergency Manager, Tammy Roehrich, who is a former Harvey High School graduate with extensive experience in emergency preparedness.

During this drill, there will be a significant presence of law enforcement vehicles in and around the High School. We want to emphasize that this event is a training exercise and not a real emergency. As a result, we kindly request the following from our school community:

  • Stay Clear of the School: For the safety and effectiveness of the training, we ask that members of the public avoid coming to the elementary school unless absolutely necessary during the hours of 3:45 PM to 5:00 PM on November 29th. The presence of unauthorized individuals could disrupt the drill.
  • Support and Understanding: We appreciate your understanding and support as we work to enhance the safety and security of our school. Please be assured that this training is designed to improve our response to emergency situations and protect all students and staff members.
  • Basketball and Wrestling practices will go on as normal: We will tape off the areas so participants know the areas of practice are off limits to the drill.

The safety of our students is our top priority, and drills like these play a crucial role in our preparedness efforts. We kindly request your cooperation and understanding as we conduct this important exercise.

We encourage any questions or concerns to be directed to our school administration or the Wells County Emergency Manager, Tammy Roehrich.

Thank you for your ongoing support and cooperation as we work together to ensure the safety of all those who enter our school buildings.

Sincerely,

Robert Lukens, Superintendent
