July 24th was National Parents Day. Let me use this platform to recognize the fantastic work of the parents of the Kadoka Area. We are so blessed to have the committed work of guardians and loved ones taking the time to buy school supplies, find school clothes, get ready to pay lunch bills, and prepare to support our excellent staff for the upcoming year.
We cannot succeed without the great work of our parents in public schools. My children are all young, as my first son will enter a junior kindergarten program at Kadoka Elementary School this year. However, I look at the parents in middle and high school and see the inspiration for the steps I take in my actions with my kids.
There was a study from 2000 that examined the idea that family didn’t have an impact on outcomes of personality in children. On its face, I had to laugh because a stable home and supportive guardians and family members can completely change the direction of a student? Why would we work so hard to have a foster care system and an adoption program that places students in good homes if there wasn’t a positive effect? In the end, the results of the study were what we would expect, parents make an enormous difference in emotional stability for students, and through that process, we see exponential growth in student achievement.
So, on this National Parents Day, once again, I thank all the parents of the Kadoka Area for their unwavering support of their children’s education. We, the staff of Kadoka Area Schools, appreciate you.
Sincerely,
Robbie
